Thailand
Thailand hosts more than 100,000 displaced persons from Myanmar in temporary shelters along the border, and more than 20,000 urban asylum-seekers and refugees in major cities. These displaced persons come from more than 40 countries, but mainly from Myanmar, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Services to the displaced are provided by several international and national NGOs. For JRS Thailand, we focus on basic education, financial assistance, informal education and vocational training, mental health services, and pastoral care.
Our work in Thailand
Jesuit Refugee Service Thailand supports refugees through a variety of programs. In education, they engage parents and teachers, offer vocational and academic training, and provide access to a digital platform. Their emergency aid includes supporting children’s education in safe areas, offering mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) for asylum seekers, and addressing basic needs such as food and medical referrals. JRS also advocates through partnerships and works on policy transformation. In mental health, they implement Social Emotional Learning programs, operate an urban education project, and provide spiritual care in camps. Additionally, they support livelihoods through training and small business grants in camps.
