Growing Canopies, Strengthening Communities aims to strengthen marginal communities whose survival depends on the sustainability of their natural resources.

Growing Canopies

Since 2021, 29 partner communities in Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Thailand have grown 41,706 trees to strengthen their social and ecological systems. Growing forest is a community endeavor that enhances ecological and social strength of communities to have better chances of not being forcibly displaced by abusive exploitation of natural resources and aggressive development policies.

Many intensive forms of environmental exploitation and degradation not only exhaust resources but also undo the social structures, shaped cultural identity, and their sense of meaning of life and community.
Pope Francis, Laudato Si, 145

Tree planting is not only a good activity for the environment and climate, but it also enhances community spirit, peace, and reconciliation between the two divided groups in our community. It restores positive relationship among us.

Strengthening Communities

Marginalized and indigenous communities in Asia Pacific are subjected to aggression and pushed to abandon their homes where they have lived for generations. The cultural and environmental integrity of their communities are pressured, threatened and disrespected. The future of their community is at stake. We are called to an ecological conversion and live a life that respects and promotes integral ecology and care for our common home.
